Locale celebrates Global Diversity Month

19 October 2023

This Global Diversity Month is all about celebrating our differences. As Locale's Director of People & Culture, I want to highlight how Locale is at the forefront of this crucial conversation about fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace, now and throughout the year. Crucially, we recognise the power of leveraging individuals' backgrounds, skills, and experiences to enhance the business while also empowering them as individuals. Here are the key pillars to making it happen:

In a rapidly evolving world, the power of inclusion cannot be overstated. By bringing people together from different backgrounds, we capitalise on a wealth of unique perspectives and talents. This approach helps counter unconscious bias and allows teams to tap into a broader pool of creativity and innovation. It's about creating an environment where everyone feels valued, regardless of their background, and enabling them to thrive.

Constructive criticism is a cornerstone of personal and professional growth. Creating a culture of openness and feedback is essential. By embracing diverse voices and experiences, employees learn from one another and the organisation becomes a centre of excellence.

Hybrid working empowers greater inclusivity. Leveraging technology, collaboration tools, and flexible schedules, teams can work together seamlessly, irrespective of responsibilities around dependants, commuting times, neurodiverse requirements, or other mental and physical health parameters. This adaptability not only caters to the evolving culture and language of work, but also accommodates different personalities and working styles to achieve company-wide goals and objectives.

We are always open to learning and adapting with the times. By actively listening and appreciating each other's unique viewpoints, employees become better at what they do. They can adapt and innovate more effectively, leveraging their collective wisdom to navigate an ever-changing business landscape.

By bridging backgrounds, skills, and experiences, a commitment to ‘think globally but act locally’ – meaning that generalised policies and procedures are adapted and interpreted to equitably serve every employee – shapes any workplace into a centre of excellence, preparing it to excel in the future of work. This approach not only benefits the organisation but empowers every individual to realise their full potential while creating a vibrant community connected to do their best work in the way that suits them best.
